Four Anker SOLIX RS50S panels create an 8.89 m² angled wing. While 750mm drive-in Metpost spikes resist downward gravity loads well, winter storm gusts hitting the back of the array generate strong upward pull-out forces in wet garden soil.

Mandatory Additions for a Safe 12-Month Garden Install:

Base Ballast Slabs (Shown in 3D): Bolt 47×100mm front-to-back base ties near ground level and lay concrete paving slabs (600×600×50mm, ~42kg each) or gravel bags across them.
Screw-In Ground Anchors: Drive 4× heavy-duty spiral ground anchors (dog-tie/shed earth anchors) behind the rear posts and strap them to the rear bearer with ratchet straps or galvanized wire rope.
Use 100×100mm (4") Posts + 4 Pairs (8 Spikes): Significantly increases soil grip surface area compared to 6× 75mm spikes.

Recommended DIY Assembly Sequence

String Line & Drive Spikes: Face the front row true South. Stretch two parallel taut string lines separated by the exact Post Base Depth (C-to-C) shown in the Cut List. Use a wooden driving dolly block and sledgehammer to drive the 750mm spikes plumb.
Set Vertical Posts & Level Tops: Insert the UC4 fence posts into the 150mm spike collars. Use a spirit level and string line across all front posts before cutting/bolting the front bearer so that uneven garden turf doesn't twist the array.
Bolt Front & Rear Bearers: Bolt the two 4.6m horizontal 47×100mm C24 bearers across the front and rear post rows using M10 coach bolts (join 2.4m lengths over a central post with a 600mm splice plate if you cannot transport 4.8m timber).
Fit Sloped Rafters & Cross Bracing: Lay the 8× sloped 47×100mm rafters across the front and rear bearers at the selected tilt angle. Secure each intersection with heavy-duty hurricane ties or 2× 150mm TimberLock structural screws, then add the diagonal bracing struts.
Mount Rails & Anker RS50S Panels: Fix the two horizontal mounting rails at approx. 450mm from the top and bottom edges of the 1961mm panels (the optimal quarter clamping zones). Lift the 26.7kg panels with two people and secure using 4× 30mm end clamps and 6× mid clamps.
